How can I reach CampMed2025 with public transportation?

CampMed2025 will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fremont (45976 Warm Springs Boulevard), which is easily accessible by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) trains and the AC Transit Bus system. The Warm Springs BART station is approximately half a mile from the CampMed2025 conference location. AC Transit Bus 217 stops less than a quarter of a mile from the CampMed2025 conference location.

Will CampMed2025 conference participants keep conference materials?

While many hands-on activities will occur, some of the tools and materials used will stay at the conference. Each conference participant will receive the following medical supplies to keep and bring home:
-white coat with embroidered name
-stethoscope
-splint
-reflex hammer

Will I receive a certificate after completing a conference?

Yes, you will receive a certificate that states the date(s) of your participation if you complete a one-day or multi-day conference in 2023 or beyond. Certificates are not given to students who do not complete an entire conference or who participate in one or some workshop(s) (rather than all workshops) of a one-day CampMedMini conference.

Who can attend CampMed and CampMedMini Conferences?

The CampMed and CampMedMini Conferences are for students who are in or entering high school and and for college students. Students in or entering 8th grade who are mature and have a strong interest in exploring the field of medicine are welcome to apply as well.

Is there a cancellation and refund policy?

Each registration form will list the conference-specific cancellation and refund policy for the student and parent/guardian to review before submitting.

Are the same topics taught each year in the CampMed and CampMedMini Conferences?

The same topics are not necessarily taught each year. Students are encouraged to read the Conference workshop descriptions to determine if they are interested in the specific focus offered.

Can my parent/guardian observe a conference workshop?

Yes, parents and guardians are welcome to observe conference workshops with permission. If interested in observing, please email Dr. Teng at tengocampmed@gmail.com.

Why are meals not included in the conferences?

Meals are not included in the conferences in order to decrease registration fees and because many students have specific dietary preferences or restrictions. Conferences are held in convenient locations near local restaurants that students can access. If the specific conference spans a mealtime, students are welcome to bring a meal from home or purchase a meal from a local restaurant.

Snacks are provided for students during specific times of the conference.

Can I shadow, observe, or be a research assistant for Dr. Teng in her clinical practice?

The clinic that Dr. Teng practices in does not permit outside students or observers. However, Dr. Teng provides opportunities for interested alumni and participants of CampMed Conferences to become Teaching Assistants (TAs). Dr. Teng has also partnered with interested students to put together a community health fair.  A community health fair is a great way to screen community members for common health conditions and provide health education- the exact things that are frequently done in the clinic setting, thus providing students with the opportunity to practice what they are interested in doing most.

How do I get involved in the community health fair?

It is wonderful that you are interested in supporting and being a part of the community health fair. Information will be sent to TengoMed newsletter subscribers as health fair planning unfolds. Subscribe by submitting the form at the bottom of this page.

How do I become a Teaching Assistant (TA)?

Alumni of CampMed multi-day conferences are given the opportunity to become Teaching Assistants for future conferences and workshops. Those who express interest are sent applications, where they compose and submit a statement about why they would like to be a TA. Dr. Teng reviews the applications and selects the TAs. It is possible to be a TA for more than one conference.

What do Teaching Assistants (TAs) do?

TAs assist with a variety of items for each conference. The duties can include:
-preparation and set-up before and clean up after the workshops
-demonstrating or being demonstrated on for various medical physical exams
-assisting and/or guiding the conference participants in the hands-on activities
-taking photos to document the conference

What are the benefits of being a Teaching Assistant (TA)?

Teaching Assistants may be assisting for conferences or workshops they have not previously participated in. Thus, they are given the opportunity for new hands-on medical educational experiences without a conference registration fee. TAs have the opportunity to demonstrate and develop their leadership and teaching skills, as well as include this experience on their resumes. TAs receive a specific certificate after each conference that they assist in. If the TA demonstrates professionalism, commitment, and excellence, they also have the opportunity to receive letters of recommendation from Dr. Teng.

For those conferences that have a materials fee, what is the materials fee used for?

The materials fee covers the cost of materials that are consumed during the educational activities and includes the cost of materials that students are allowed to bring home. Some materials that are utilized in the workshops can be used multiple times but eventually have to be replaced due to wear-and-tear or improper use. For CampMed2025, there is not a separate materials fee. All costs are included in the registration fee.

Does TengoMed offer opportunities for elementary or middle school students?

TengoMed is still forming opportunities for students who are not yet in high school.

What is the difference between CampMed and CampMedMini?

CampMed is a conference for high school and college students that is held over more than 1 day. It contains half-day workshops on dedicated medical topics. Students register with the intention of attending the entire conference. The CampMed conferences may limit registration to fewer students to maximize hands-on exposure and learning. CampMed is the most recommended conference for students who want to dive deep into hands-on medical learning.

CampMedMini is a one-day conference for high school and college students, and students might have the option to register for only one or some of the day’s workshops, if space permits. The workshops are shorter than CampMed conference workshops, and CampMedMini may have a larger number of students.  CampMedMini is a great introduction to hands-on medical learning.

Where can I learn about the experiences of prior CampMed participants?

Student participants complete anonymous feedback surveys during and/or at the end of the conferences. You can read excerpts from the feedback students provide on the “Reviews” page. You are also welcome to read the Google reviews that students and parents have written.
